Devotional generator

Last updated 2026-06-11

The Devotional generator takes any passage you are reading and produces a short, focused reflection to help you go deeper. It is not a commentary and it is not a sermon. It is a few hundred words to sit with before you close your Bible and walk into the day.

How to use it

  1. Go to /scripture/devotional or tap Generate Devotional from the Bible Workbench toolbar while a passage is open.
  2. Confirm the passage. If you arrived from the Workbench it will be pre-filled. Otherwise type a reference (e.g. “Romans 8:1-4”).
  3. Tap Generate. The devotional streams in three parts: a reflection paragraph, a key truth to carry through your day, and a closing prayer prompt.
  4. Save it to your Journal if you want to keep it. Saved devotionals are tagged to the passage and retrievable in Smart Recall.
  5. You can regenerate if the first result does not land. Each generation draws from the same passage but takes a different angle.

What it is and is not

The devotional is generated from the passage you give it and your foundation context where available. It is not a substitute for reading Scripture yourself. It is also not a replacement for a trusted commentary, a pastor, or the Holy Spirit speaking directly to you through the Word. Think of it as a starting point for reflection, not the final word.

Every generated devotional is subject to the theological commitments in the Statement of Orthodoxy. If you receive output that seems inconsistent with orthodox Christian teaching, email hello@anchoredtime.com so we can review it.

My Devotionals library

Every devotional you generate is automatically saved to your personal library. Open My Devotionals from the More menu or from the link that appears below any finished devotional. Your library lists all saved devotionals, newest first - tap any one to reopen the full 16-section view with the Short/Full toggle, exactly as it looked when you first read it.

Export to PDF

Open any saved devotional from your library and tap Export PDF. Your browser print dialog opens - choose Save as PDF as the destination. The print layout removes all app chrome and renders a clean, readable devotional with the Scripture citation at the bottom. The PDF is generated entirely in your browser - no data leaves your device.

This is part of the AnchoredTime data-portability commitment: your words, your reflections, and your walk with Jesus belong to you in open formats you can keep forever.

Why we built it

Some passages land on you and you want to sit with them. But life does not always give you the time for a full study session. The devotional generator is for those moments: you have five minutes, a verse is ringing in your ears, and you want something to hold onto as you walk out the door with Jesus. It is a small grace for the busy walk.
